American Flags In Your Home

My intrigue started with this picture that I saw on Pinterest (duh).

The flag is casual but drapes so beautifully on the wall. I prefer the "casual" hanging look of the flag compared to the structure of a framed flag.

I'm guessing we all like the look of the American Flag, but bringing it inside is something that we usually don't do. It's usually standing in all its glory outside
At my parent's house we have one that hangs outside and one that hangs in the garage. During the winter months we keep the one usually reserved for outside, inside on display by the front door:

I kept "pinteresting" the topic and found beyond gorgeous images. I guess a lot of people hang their flags inside.

What do you think of flags indoors?

DIY Gold Agate Box

I made this small little box for a friend and I like it so much I think I'll make one for myself.
I got all the supplies at Michael's craft store.
Gold spray paint, agate-like beads, brown box, and hot glue.
Now that I've completed this box I feel like the possibilities are endless, I could have hundreds of these in my apartment! Just kidding, that would look ridiculous.

First, I just spray painted the box. I left the inside untouched because I didn't want the paint to rub off on anything she decides to keep in the box.

Then, I just hot glued the stones to the top, I thought it would need more but I like the way three stones looked.

Finished product! Easy and fast- took only about 30 minutes with drying time.

Looking back, I should have just used metallic paint instead of spray paint because I had to go back and fix some uneven spots the spray paint made.

The Emerald City

If you are a person that follows blogs on the reg, or if you just enjoy colors, you have heard that Pantone's color of the year is EMERALD. Shocking.

Maybe I'm just biased 'cause it's my birthstone, but I've always really loved the color. It reminds me of an older world of big dresses and men named Mr. Darcy. Emerald has a kind of regal feel that brings a certain unexpectedness to a room.

Also, because of Kyle Richards (naturally), whenever I think of emerald I think of her wearing those beautiful Jennifer Miller earrings. I don't know if you remember those babies, but whooo the internet exploded when she wore those. I still find myself looking for copycats to this day.

You're From the 70s, but I'm a 90s Bitch.

This song is my new Call Your Girlfriend  or Dancing On My Own.

Well, no one can ever replace Robyn but Icona Pop is pretty close.

GIRLS, thank you for re-introducing this song to the world.

All Black Errythang

I don't know if it's because black is on trend or just because but I've been going through this phase where all I want to wear is black. This has translated into decorating too, I would love to paint a room black. Black walls, just imagine.
You'd think this would look dark and dreary and turn the room into something you would never want to be in, but I think it does the opposite. It makes the room seem sophisticated and rich, and bringing in whites makes it even more perfect.
The evidence is shown in below images:

At this point in my life I can only plan and draw out what my black room would look like. (If you're wondering my plan involves horns on the walls, white and ivory accents, and python patterned pillows)
I rent an apartment at school and having to paint over black would be a nightmare. So for right now I'll have to deal with the off-white that has been painted on the walls for God knows how long.

The Mindy Project & Jonathan Adler

First of all, The Mindy Project is amazing. If you're not watching, start. now. go.

Second of all, ever since the Thanksgiving episode I can not get her candlesticks out of my head. This is very concerning because I have never had the urge to buy candlesticks in my life. Obviously, these are special candlesticks.

I did some web searches and nothing came up, so I went with my first instinct: Jonathan Adler.

Of course it's him, sigh.

You can buy them here. They're $78, and considering I am a poor college student, they will still only remain a dream.

I guess now the hunt is on for some "cool" candlesticks. But, I might be the only person that considers candlesticks cool in the first place...

Captain's Mirror

Lately I have been coveting a captain's mirror. I think these mirrors are gorgeous and add a little somethin' somethin' to an average mirror.
I am re-doing the powder room at my parent's house and I think it would go perfectly above the sink.

These mirrors are usually expensive, I'm talking $1600 expensive. But Target has one right now $29.99! I thought I'd check it out but there is always an option to DIY too.

I think with a little glass cloth on the walls and a captain's mirror, the bathroom will be gorg.
